BetVictor are the modern reincarnation of the original Victor Chandler brand. William Chandler, grandfather to the aforementioned Victor Chandler, originally opened Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium in 1925 laying the foundations for what was to come. However, it was not until 1946 that his son, Victor Chandler, started the business we know today. It quickly changed back but in order to keep pace with modern thinking and to shed a traditional image, BetVictor was later born as its owner began to take a back seat. The changes were completed in 2014 when Victor Chandler junior finally gave up the reigns after 40 years – handing over to businessman and racehorse owner Michael Tabor.

Businessman Michael Tabor has taken over bookmaker BetVictor in a move which sees the firm’s chairman and CEO leave their roles.
The deal, which has been agreed for an undisclosed sum, sees industry figurehead Victor Chandler step down as chairman along with chief executive Michael Carlton, with both men assuming consultancy roles.
Racehorse owner Tabor, a founding shareholder in BetVictor, sold the Arthur Price chain of betting shops to bookmaker Coral for a reported £27m in 1995. Betvictor
He said: “I believe the BetVictor brand has enormous potential and is well-placed to continue its expansion with further investment and strategic development.'
Victor Chandler added: “Having owned and led this business for more than 40 years, I looked towards the future and I decided that the company would be best served under new ownership and leadership.
'I have known Mr Tabor for many years and I am confident that the company will continue to thrive under his ownership.' Owner

Where is Betvictor legal and illegal?

As is the case with many bookmakers, Betvictor do not actually include a list of unrestricted countries from which it is definitively legal to use their site as part of their terms and conditions.

What they do state in their T&C’s, however, is that it is the responsibility of punters themselves to ensure that they do not fall foul of gambling laws in their country;

In opening your account you warrant that gambling is not illegal in the territory where you reside.

Fortunately, Betvictor are far more helpful in identifying the restricted countries from which it is illegal to sign up to or use their services. Their terms and conditions stipulate that those countries are as follows:

  • Afghanistan
  • Albania
  • Algeria
  • Antigua & Barbuda
  • Armenia
  • Australia
  • Bangladesh
  • Barbados
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina
  • Brazil
  • Bulgaria
  • Cameroon
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Cote D’Ivoire
  • Croatia
  • Cuba
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Ecuador
  • Estonia
  • Fiji
  • France
  • Grenada
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Macau
  • Malaysia
  • Mexico
  • Moldova
  • Monaco
  • Myanmar
  • North Korea
  • Palestinian Territories
  • Panama

  • Taiwan
  • Tonga
  • Turkey
  • Turkmenistan
  • Uganda
  • Ukraine
  • Uruguay
  • USA
  • Uzbekistan
  • Vatican City
  • Virgin Islands
  • Zambia

As mentioned, this list is given as part of the Betvictor terms and conditions so it may be worth checking there from time to time, to see if and when any changes are made. You can do this on their website here.

It is also important to note that the list of Betvictor’s restricted territories does not include all nations of the world. If your country does not appear, therefore, it is likely that it’s legal to use the Betvictor service but you should certainly do your own research before doing so.

Currencies Accepted

As Betvictor do cater for customers from a variety of different countries, they also allow punters to bet in a selection of different currencies. Those currently provided for by the bookmaker are as follows:

  • Australian Dollars (AUD)
  • Canadian Dollars (CAD)
  • Euros (EUR)
  • New Zealand Dollars (NZD)
  • Norwegian Kroner (NOK)
  • South African Rand (ZAR)
  • Swedish Kronor (SEK)
  • Swiss Francs (CHF)
  • UK Pounds (GBP)
  • United States Dollars (USD)

Betvictor, then, do not have the largest selection of available currencies around but they do cover the major currencies of the vast majority of the countries from which it is legal to access their services.

Bonus Restrictions at Betvictor

Even if you can legally access Betvictor from your country and your chosen currency is catered for, there is another kind of national restriction which it pays to be aware of. These are bonus restrictions, whereby customers can be excluded from the Betvictor free bet or other bonus offers and promotions based on their country of residence.

Betvictor, in kind with many other bookmakers, do have such restrictions and state that sportsbook offers are not available to punters from the following countries:

  • Azerbaijan
  • Burkina Faso
  • Georgia
  • Greece
  • Iran
  • Japan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Macau
  • Macedonia
  • Montenegro
  • Russia
  • Slovakia

Betvictor as a company can trace its origins all the way back to 1946 when it was founded by William Chandler.
